Practices for December Trip

Dance practice will resume during JUNE. The dates are:

14,15 - 8am to 5pm
21,22 - 1pm to 5pm

The practices are compulsory for all dancers going on the overseas trip during December (Secondary 1-3, no secondary 4). The practices include the choreography of dance we need to perform. Please cooperate. :)

Alright, I did this on labor day, examination period but heck =)

Yawn, I need someone to help me out with the updates of this blog, since I don't think I can keep it updated frequently anymore. Oh well, I haven't been updating much anyways, so someone just come along and help out ...

I'm not done adding things here yet, it's halfway done I suppose. Jiacheng will probably scream if he saw his name up there, hehe.

Oh yea, you might be interested to check out the SYF'07 Central Judging results. To my horror, there's only one participation in the Chinese dance central judging, oh my god! International dance results has many participations in it, so not so outstanding.

Golden Record

Gold, baby, our modern dance has attained a gold for SYF '07! We broke the freakin' no-gold for 28 years of performing arts in SYF! We're shining, we're smiling, we're on a roll! It's like, all of our efforts paid off and didn't let anybody down! And there's so much I want to say.

2 years ago, when I was still a kid, I was dragged into the SYF '05 by Mrs Lim and played quite a minor role in that dance. We got silver, and at that point of time, I didn't really understood why the seniors had to cry. I was the smallest guy in there, brittle, weak and everything you can think of.

2 years later, now, we're back in action again. Only some dancers who have participated in the previous SYF took part again, and they were: Pei Xuan, Wan Ting, Yi Sin, Wengling and lastly, me. The guys in the last SYF have mostly graduated, while Chun Hui & Zhi Kai would prefer to play basketball. And there comes the saviors of this dance: Sean, Jia Cheng and Sayang. Wei Heng was knocked out with an uncalled injury at the very last moment, but we managed to get by without his presence. Sean was thrown into dance by me, whereas Jia Cheng & Sayang were just like the old me, being forced by Mrs. Lim.

Huang-laoshi (Henry Ng) was a professional choreographer, a gold medalist in SYF competitions and took the risk of taking us to the SYF as we're a bunch of dancers with weak techniques. The intensive training started in December of 2006, when Pan-laoshi started crafting this dance for us, so unique, that we were actually using pillows as our props.

Fong-laoshi assisted us in the later part of December, along with Cheng-laoshi who would later make major changes to our dance. Not to forget, it was also Wu-laoshi who was always there to clean up the mess us guys have caused. We were a playful bunch, little team spirit back then, but as time passed, love grows and blah-blah ... Oh heck, I just want to say that we have become closer, yea?

Our attitude started to turn worse towards the SYF competition, inconsistent performance and it was worrying the teachers. It was not until the very day before the competition, that we were all as one and have the feeling of gold-rush. The camp was like, gosh, barely one-quarter of the dancers were sleeping and were all loitering at night. Wu-laoshi did not sleep because he was sewing the mattress for us, and Cheng-laoshi was designing the lighting for us. The next morning, the most terrifying thing came true ... everyone was half-dead. Slacking, sleeping and all bad attitude you can think of, we did it.

But the feeling of doing well just came back to us after putting on our costumes and make-up, danced a few times before setting off for the UCC. That was what our teachers have longed to see in us, seriousness with stage-performance quality. And my god, we did it. For the past 2 days, I was thinking about it. I don't want to get another silver, I want to earn something different for the school. We all want, gold.

If it weren't for Pan-laoshi and Huang-laoshi, we wouldn't have danced this item. They could have given this theme to some gold-standard schools and won a gold with honors award, but they chose to risk it on us. If it weren't for Fong-laoshi, we wouldn't have such unique music. It it weren't for Wu-laoshi and Cheng-laoshi, our dance steps would be in jeopardy. If it weren't for them, the gold ain't possible.

At Regent

The thought of having dance practice on Saturday really irritates me, but at the end of the day, this wasn't the case.

Bingkun picked us up at the MRT station and we walked a long way to his school, while some are still loitering around the MRT station waiting for the latecomers. Upon reaching, we had to register ourselves by the gate and we proceed to the hall immediately.

There was indeed a distinct difference between combined practices and normal practices, our dancers were much more serious and focused. I'm not really sure if that goes the same for Regent Secondary but it feels really awesome to see everyone trying their best, if not, getting the better side out of them. Regent Secondary got the ball rolling by showing us their item first, and that surely made us shivered a little. They had the technique which we lacked, so most of us become a little demoralized ... but in the end, we were all motivated to do better. And our first time was not bad, second better and subsequently improving. As a side note, Binkun said our item is awesome after the first few run-through.

Lets keep on going, we are coming close to the dateline! Rally up and do our best!

I'll be trying to update here regularly but it won't be frequently if there's nothing to express or lack of time to spare, so please pardon me (unless you are willing to help me out with the updating, I don't mind).

Okay, the school practices only applies for those involved in SYF, and similarly those who are taking the course at dance horizon need to go on the next 2 weeks as they are moving!

The combined practice is most probably going to be with Regent Secondary School, but details are still not clear, so Huang-laoshi should be making an announcement during one of the three practices.

And guys who are free on the 24th, please make an effort down to Kallang Theater to helping with the evacuating. Girls who want to help ... uhmmm ... =/

Motivated or Decapitated ... You Decide

Absolutely bad experience in dance today, 1.5 hours spent on reprimanding. Just because Jiacheng didn't come, Pei Xuan injured and Weng Ling sick, we were all in for a lesson. Just like I told Jiacheng after school, "if you don't come, it is those who come that suffer for sure." And aw man, I was so right.

He expected those who are ill/unwell to dance, but that is just suicide. If Pei Xuan were to dance with her injured arm, she will definitely be out for next week's class. It's not like she anticipated this injury, she has a clean record of coming to every practice until this. Sayang can dance with a fever last december but Wengling might not be that strong, no point making her condition worse! Even the strongest man falls, let alone us. Not speaking about others and talking about myself, I didn't had much strength today too, shoulder-ache and back-overstretch killed me.

Yet I still dance, and it hurts bad.

Mrs. Lim is also troubled every time we make trouble like this, she has the IT department to manage too and even told me that she has to rush working with a technician regarding school laptops due tomorrow ... but she still had to work things out for us. We might get sick, angry over the comments Huang-laoshi say but think about the stress Mrs. Lim feels, the burden is much heavier and there's not much she can do about it when a big factor of the problem is us. So just play our parts right ... yea?

Secondary Ones

Been long hasn't it? The new batch of students have just joined us in Dance and hurray, an increase in the number of boys. Uhm, don't mistaken me, I'm equally happy with the interest shown by the girls as well.

It is sort of boring in dance for them this week, since they just sit by one corner and watch us. But the boredom is going to be over! Next week is probably gonna be a start of them, no more spying eyes on us!

Okay, what else. St. Valentine Day. Brought your chocolates, flowers, cards and arsenal of lovey-dovey gifts yet? Sadly, on that day, there ain't dance or we can all make ~~a mess~~ fun out of it! P.S. - All of you still have this weekend to stock up on your gifts (for me). Let's celebrate the love~

Dance Horizon Registration

Please be reminded that we've arranged to meet at Kallang MRT Station: Near Control Station, 1PM. Late-comers will not be entertained and you have to be your way there yourself. Cruel? (Per order of the chairperson ... I'm merely passing on the message.)

Anyways, we have to be at Kallang Theater by 1.45PM and the bus takes sometime to stop by, so we have to wait quite long if we miss one ride. That's why late-comers will have to go there themselves.

Please bring your CD/DVD for the burning of cultural night performance video, in courtesy of the media club who offered this service. However, they have stated that:

If you wish for the video to be burned in .AVI format, please bring a CD.
If you wish fr the video to be compatible with DVD players, please bring a DVD.

.AVI can only be viewed on your computer and typical VCD players will not be able to view it.

The specific details for the burning of DVD is not confirmed yet, as they have to check whether they have the necessary programs for burning so it is supported by DVD players.
